FAQS: Students and Educators Vaccination

1. Are these the only vaccination centers for Abu Dhabi students?
No. Abu Dhabi students can choose to receive the vaccine at any DoH approved Vaccination Center of their choice. However, these centers are dedicated for students and educators until 31 October and take walk-ins. 

2. Which vaccine will be made available at the vaccination centers? 
Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines are available at the vaccination centers (dose 1 & 2 and Booster dose). Parents can choose their preferred vaccine for their child.

Please ensure you have decided which vaccine you would like your child to take upon arriving at the vaccination centers as you will be asked and processed accordingly. 

3. Who is eligible to be vaccinated at the dedicated vaccination centers? 
All Abu Dhabi students aged 12 and above are eligible for the vaccine, including university students. The centers will also welcome teachers and school admin staff.

4. What documents are required to receive the vaccination?
(Residents): Emirates ID, ALHOSN app (must show green or grey status), and student ID
(Newcomers): Passport & Residency entry permit, ALHOSN app (must show green or grey status), and a proof of enrollment at school.

5. My child recovered recently from COVID-19, would they be able to receive the vaccine at the dedicated vaccination centers?
If 2-4 weeks have passed since their recovery and receiving 2 consecutive negative PCR test results, students can receive the vaccine. However, the nurses and medical staff at the dedicated student vaccination centers will assess the child’s eligibility ahead of introducing the vaccine.

6. We arrived newly to the Emirate and our residency/ Emirates ID is not issued yet, would my child be able to receive the vaccine?
Students who arrived newly to the Emirate can present their passports and a copy of their residency entry permit. You can also activate your child’s ALHOSN App using the UID number. New students must also present an enrollment letter or proof of enrollment at school.

7. Do I need an appointment to bring my child to be vaccinated?
No appointments required. Students and guardians can walk-in during designated timings. Students below the age of 18 must be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.

8. Is it mandatory for my child to be vaccinated to return to school? 
Students aged 16 and above choosing to return to face-to-face in-school learning must be vaccinated as per the recent protocols issued by the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee. Students with vaccination exemptions can enter school premises provided the exemption is verified on the ALHOSN app or through an official letter from a Department of Health -Abu Dhabi authorized vaccination provider such as SEHA or Mubadala Health. Vaccination is optional for students below 16 years of age choosing the face-to-face in-school learning model.

9. What is the vaccination process and how long does it take? 
The vaccination process takes approximately 40 minutes from start to finish as per the following steps:

  1. Arrival at waiting area and receiving a customer number. Please ensure you have decided which vaccine you would like your child to take upon arriving at the vaccination centers as you will be asked and processed accordingly. 
  2. Registration at vaccination cabin
  3. Vitals check, examination and vaccination
  4. Post-vaccination observation period (15-30 mins based on risk assessment)
  5. Check-out & receiving the vaccination card

10. When would my child receive the second dose of the vaccine?
Approximately 3 weeks later at the same vaccination center or any other vaccination center of your choice. The nurses and medical staff at the dedicated vaccination center will provide you with all the relevant details about the second dose.

11. My child already received his first dose, would he be able to receive the second dose at these vaccination centers?
If your children have completed the required period between their first and second dose, they will be able to receive the second dose at the dedicated vaccination center. However, the nurses and medical staff at the dedicated student vaccination centers will review their vaccination card and assess the child’s eligibility ahead of introducing the second dose.

12. My child has already been vaccinated and has completed 6 months; can they receive their booster dose at the vaccination center? 
Yes, booster doses will be available.

13. Will I be able to receive the vaccine with my child at these vaccination centers?
We encourage all members of the community to take the vaccine and support the national vaccination program. However, the dedicated student vaccination centers are for Abu Dhabi students aged 12 and above, including university students, as well as teachers and school admin staff. 14. How safe are the vaccines for children 12 and above? 
Getting children vaccinated against COVID-19 is an important step in protecting younger individuals from the virus. Clinical trials have found that vaccinated adolescents have high levels of antibodies in their blood, indicating strong protective immunity. As the UAE’s national vaccination campaign continues, Abu Dhabi health authorities continue to closely monitor global information on vaccines and any side effects.
