WRO offers students from 8 to 19 years of age, engaging and challenging competitions across 4 main categories. Each category has its own characteristics and offers participants a choice that is not found in many other robotic competitions.
These categories are:
To participate, students must form teams of 2 or 3 people. Each team is able to work under the supervision of a coach or mentor, who is able to guide them, but not undertake any of the work.
A challenge-based competition where teams design, construct and program an autonomous robot that can solve specific challenges on a field at a set time.
A project-based competition where teams design and develop their own innovative and intelligent robotics solutions to solve real world problems.
A research-based challenge where teams design and develop an autonomous (self-driving) car to drive around a track and avoid obstacles along the way.
